When people create a account with the intention to spam, it would be better to keep that user on file, but blocked. Such user can be detected on their email address, and it is currently impossible to use that email address again.
So, a change would be necessary to have a blocked flag and separate normal users from blocked users. Maybe this is already possible, but I lack detailed information about that.
In this way, a GL powered site could act as a honeypot. Which contributes to the slogan "the secure cms". As a matter of fact, I caught such spammer within a day after going online.
Is creating a group "blocked spammers" a option?

You can already ban users in Geeklog. The account is kept but the user can no longer log into it.
Also, it's not exactly what you asked for but goes in the same direction: I wrote
two modules for Spam-X[*1] . One takes the homepage URL of banned users into account when scanning for spam and the other automatically bans users when they try to add spam links and keywords to their profile.

I know of a ban plugin, but that dates back to 2003 and just replaces a few files.
Is this what you mean with "ban a user" ? I can't find a method to ban a user.

When you edit a user, there's a User Status dropdown with a "Banned" option.
