If this post is not appropriate just let me know or delete it... I'm not bashing Geeklog at all.... I've had my site on it for a couple years now. However, all my other sites are not on Wordpress, and I am just so familiar with it. Every time I have to do something on my Geeklog site (major changes or plugin installs...) I always need to get someone to help me. I know it's simple as pie for some, but I just never grasped the concept.
I did a search and there are quite a few posts about moving from WP to GL, and GL to WP... I didn't see any information about how to do this though. I really need someone who has expertise in both Geeklog and Wordpress to help me. I would like to get all of my users moved over. (I have custom registration on my GL site... Username, full name, and Email address.) If someone specializes in doing this, has done it successfully before, or could point me in the right direction of someone who can... I'd greatly appreciate it! I saw this
http://www.justdave.net/dave/2007/01/16/geeklog-to-wordpress-converter/[*1] online, but after reading the comments underneath it, it seems that it only works on older versions of GL and WP.
Any help would be appreciated! I have a 2nd challenge as well, but I can discuss that with anyone that thinks they can help with this first one...
Thanks a lot!

Can Wordpress read the Movable Type import format? There's a plugin around here somewhere that can export some of Geeklog's content to that format.
Another option, but that would require some programming, would be using Geeklog's AtomPub API.
Keep in mind, though, that both are incomplete solutions. I'm not aware of anything readily available that does a 1:1 conversion or something close to that.
bye, Dirk

Thanks Dirk... I appreciate all the help you've given me over the last couple years. I undoubtedly will need help with this. Do you know someone that knows both platforms really well by chance? I hit up Blaine but he's specializes in Drupal more than WP. Thanks dude!

Hey Dirk... Or anyone else that knows... I got my users over. I want to get my forum posts moved to a new forum board system. Is this possible? I was talking to someone... He said "we cannot import geeklog directly… but if you can get geeklog to bbpress or phpbb, then it would be possible…"
Are either of these options doable? If it is, how can I do it? Thanks a lot! I appreciate your help...

Thanks... Sorry if I didn't get it, but aren't those for regular posts? Stories? I need all my forum board posts from all members over the past couple years moved over to a new forum board system. Is there a way to export just the forum board posts?
Thanks!

ah....
Those are for regular posts and comments, not for forum posts.
Need to ask someone to develop a converter between gl-forum and WP's forum, maybe bbPress.

If anyone has knowledge on how to get my forum posts to my new site, please contact me. I'd pay to have it done. Not a huge budget, but I would like to move the forum posts to my new site since it's 3 years old and don't want to start from scratch. I'm pretty much done moving everything except for this last step and I'm pretty lost in regards to knowing who would be able to help with this. Any help or points in the right direction would be most appreciated! Thanks....

Have you tried asking
Blaine[*4] ? He's not active in the Geeklog community any longer but I know that he used to convert forums, e.g. phpBB, to the Geeklog forum for clients. Maybe he can also help with the other direction.

Somebody that is trying to help me move my forum board over wants a copy of my geeklog forum board database. Which one would I sent him? Do I export it from phpmyadmin? If so, what is it called? Is there more than one? Thanks guys!

The data specific to the Forum plugin is stored in several tables. Their names all start with gl_forum_. You could export those with phpMyAdmin.
The Forum uses Geeklog's uid to identify users, so you may also need the gl_users table. Be aware, though, that that table contains the user's (obfuscated) password. You should be careful when handing out sensitive data like that.

Hi
kilerb,
as far as I can understand, you made to move your users from Geeklog to Wordpress. Can you tell me how or point me to the place where you found the information to do this?
Many thanks in advance!

Honestly, someone else did it for me... I had someone get my users. I didn't have that many stories to worry about. Just users. This was months ago now and I'm not even sure really. What's your situation? Mostly posts you want to move, or users?

Well, my most important goal is to move users with their passwords and datas. If not possible to move the post I would move them one by one with copy-n-paste and assigning to the proper user.
Anyway, posts are 64 and users are 63.
Many thanks in advance.
