I am considering install the software, but notice that questions about install issues do not seem to get many answers. that concerns me.

Right now, I see 2 unanswered issues, both regarding installs using Fantastico, which is a bit of a sore point around here (this installer doesn't follow Geeklog's recommendations for installation). They should still be answered, of course.
Other than that, all installation issues seem to get answers in a timely fashion from what I can see.

Sure. The current version was released in May. It's currently a bit quiet since the developers are mainly busy with the Google Summer of Code[*1] but things will soon be picking up speed again
