So, I've read a lot of posts about database backups just now. I realize what's wrong with my situation, but I'm not 100% clear on exactly what to put in config.php. If I can show you what's there and what I know, could you tell me what to change the path to please?
Right now I got the error....
Text Formatted Code
Incorrect path or mysqldump utility not executable.
Check $_DB_mysqldump_path definition in config.php.
Variable currently defined as: /usr/bin/mysqldump
I looked at my other paths that are working and they are very different... They pretty much look like this.
Text Formatted Code
/var/www/vhosts/socal/geeklog
or like this
Text Formatted Code
/var/www/vhosts/socal/httpdocs/signup/
What would I change my
Text Formatted Code
$_DB_mysqldump_path = '/usr/bin/mysqldump';
to that will make it work?
Thanks a lot!

Ask your hosting provider

The mysqldump utility is not related to your web account - it's part of the MySQL install on the server and could be located anywhere. So, as Joe said, ask your hosting service for the correct path.

Unfortunately I'm on a virtual server w/out support. I wish I was as smart and savvy with php as you guys were. I'm just totally not. You can't tell by looking at the 2 paths that DO work above? That's not enough info to figure out where my sqldump path would be?
Thanks again...

Ah, okay... Guess I'm out of luck on this one. Thanks anyway...

Do you have ssh access to that virtual server? In which case you could try entering
which mysqldump
at the command prompt and see what it says. Failing that
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqldump
may be worth a try.

Hi Dirk, I just tried that... You know what's weird... When I hit Create New... It still came up with
Text Formatted Code
Incorrect path or mysqldump utility not executable.
Check $_DB_mysqldump_path definition in config.php.
Variable currently defined as: /usr/bin/mysqldump
I refreshed and it still says the old path above when the error comes up. Even though I changed it in config.php to what you suggested above. Why wouldn't the changes take place? Is there more than 1 config.php? I'm changing the one right in the root directory of my website.
Thanks!

Which Geeklog version is that? The config.php is not used any more as of 1.5.0. From then on, the setting is under
Configuration > Geeklog > Site > MySQL

Hi again... I got into my SSH access and did the command you told me to. Now I REALLY don't get it.. Here's what came up... By the way, I realized I was in the wrong config.php, but now i'm in the right one and it seems to be 100% correct. here's what I have....
I don't see an image code, so here's the ssh box www.socalstandup.com/ssh.jpg (it came up as /usr/bin/mysqldump which is what is there...)
Thanks
P.S. I'm in 1.4.1

It's possible that the webserver's user is not allowed to run mysqldump. Or that there are other restrictions in place, e.g. open_basedir (although that would have thrown a different error, I think).
That's usually something your hosting service would help you with ...

Gotcha... Is there another way to backup my database besides doing it that way?

Is there no phpMyAdmin? Can you install it? If it is a very small database you could copy and paste it from the screen, it`s better than nothing

There is, i'm not that familiar with how to use it. I really wish the easy backup way worked. The path is correct, so I thought that would be the only possible issue...
