My site is a school web community. Being school is out, I was intrigued to see a tremendous amount of traffic over the past few days (100's day to same place).
All the traffic goes to the same place..... /public_html/trackback.php
Being I have trackbacks disabled, not much is showing up for them.
Any ideas what they may be up to?? (Not bots or search engines)

Spambots.
If you don't use trackbacks anyway, you could add that file to your robots.txt, remove it, and/or add a .htaccess rule to block all requests to it with a 403 status code, e.g.
Redirect 403 /trackback.php
In other words: There isn't really much that you can do against those requests, but you can try to make it known that that file isn't in use / isn't there any more while reducing the load on your server. Eventually, the traffic may go away (or maybe it won't ...).
