Bug - Admin SQL error while posting or edititng
Posted on: 01/01/06 10:11am
By: ronack
I waited and downloaded RC1 this moringing. I believe that this is a bug because it only happens with admin and so far only with these two occurances although I'm still testing it. At first I thought it was something I didn't have set with Apache, PHP 5 or MySQL but that doesn't seem to be the case except maybe maybe they are less forgiving.
Again this is on a Windows 2003 Server running Apache 2, PHP 5 and the lastest flavor of MySQL 2.7.0.
This has been talked about in previous threads
here[*3] and
here[*4] and I thought I read about it in other places too. So I thought it was getting addressed.
In a nutshell
When I submit a stroy or a staticpage as an adimin I get
An SQL error has occurred. Please see error.log for details
See above links for details of Log files.
My apoligies if this has been fixed and I just missed it. If it has please direct me to the fix. This is currently preventing me from moving my sites off of my PC webserver to the high speed backbone webserver.
I'm pretty sure my little fix before wasn't right but it worked and I'll have to go back and try and figure out what I did if you think that's what is needed.

Staticpages

Setting the "thousands separator" in config.php causes problems when saving staticpages - the staticpage hit count is not in commas or parsed, so the hit count intereferes with the sql query to save a staticpage.
Cheers, Euan.

With the new 1.4 line I continue to get javascript (?) error,
even with the RC just released. It happens with IE 5.5.4134
for example I continue to get this in this page
http://demo.geeklog.net/admin/syndication.php
/! A runtime error has occured. Do you wish to debug ?
Line 218 Error : Could not get the cursor property
Clicking ok or debug shows error at line 221 or something like that
and a loop of alert boxes follow.
Switching to some other browser may be suggested but what is the problem
as this type of error was never seen in any of the previous versions.

BUG? or me...?
/admin/story.php in Geeklog 1.4.0rc1 gives me an SQL error page:
An SQL error has occurred. Please see error.log for details.
The error.log shows:
Mon 02 Jan 2006 02:14:50 CST - 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'AND (tid = 'Advert' OR tid = 'INET_KENO' OR tid = 'entertainme. SQL in question: SELECT gl_stories.*, gl_users.username, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(date) AS unixdate FROM gl_stories LEFT JOIN gl_users ON gl_stories.uid=gl_users.uid WHERE 1 AND AND (tid = 'Advert' OR tid = 'INET_KENO' OR tid = 'entertainment' OR tid = 'KenoSchools' OR tid = 'CityHall' OR tid = 'Religion' OR tid = 'RealEstate' OR tid = 'HACKER' OR tid = 'HISTORY' OR tid = 'Help' OR tid = 'humor' OR tid = 'LAW' OR tid = 'JOBS' OR tid = 'YourHealth' OR tid = 'OP/ED' OR tid = 'KENOMONEY' OR tid = 'ELECTION/2004' OR tid = 'US-CIVILRIGHTS' OR tid = 'Politics' OR tid = 'US-Politics' OR tid = 'US-Crime' OR tid = 'US-Law' OR tid = 'Train' OR tid = 'Homeland' OR tid = 'WI_POLITICS' OR tid = 'WI_NEWS' OR tid = 'WI_LAW' OR tid = 'WI_EDITORIAL' OR tid = 'US_GOVT' OR tid = 'WORLD_NEWS' OR tid = 'US_WAR' OR tid = 'USNEWS' OR tid = 'KENOARTS' OR tid = 'USECON' OR tid = 'FAMILYCONTENT' OR tid = 'ArtsandLit' OR tid = 'LegalNotice' OR tid = 'KENOSPORTS' OR tid = 'ARCHIVE' OR tid = 'KenoCrime' OR tid = 'KenoParents' OR tid = 'technology' OR tid = 'CityDesk' OR tid = 'MOTHERHOOD' OR tid = 'OUTDOORS' OR tid = 'Holiday' OR tid = 'WISC' OR tid = 'OP-ED') ORDER BY unixdate desc LIMIT 0,50;
Obviously listing my topics. Looks like the story.php has dramatically changed since 1.3.
Symptoms:
I can submit a new story. The advanced editor is working now. When I submit, I get the error message. When I return to Home, the story is there. If I edit the story, the same error occurs, but the edit takes.
I cannot use the admin menu to list stories. The error seems to effect the liststories function.

It looks like this is trying to putting in a null value
Incorrect integer value: ' '
If that was changed to put in a value of 0 would that be good? I'm going to try it and find out. From what I can tell in MySQL the filed has it set up for a default value of 0 but for some reason that is not being placed in as the default value. I'm going to ask the question on one of the MySQL forums to see if they have an answer as to why it's not populating the filed.

I logged into the demo site to create a story. I tried using the new wysiwy editor but it does not seem to work for me.
It was just a simple test but here is what I've done. Write up a story, highlight a section of text with my mouse, hit the icon to boldface it. It then shows as bold face in the editor. If then hit preview, the bold facing goes away and it doesn't show up in the published story either.
I also used the [page_break] tag and go this error when I clicked the next page link:
URL Class: number of names passed to setArgNames must be equal or greater than number of arguments found in URL
I am using Firefox 1.5 on a Libranet 3.0 Linuxbox.
Thanks,
Tim

I did finally get my editor in 1.4 working. The other little bugs won't go away. Particularly the sql error in story.php, abd now a new one:
I can't create a new block. SQL error.
When I read the error log, I can copy the sql INSERT and paste it into phpMyAdmin, but notice that the blocks I am trying to install have 'bid' which doesn't fly. Removing the 'bid from the INSERT and REPLACE statements lets it go through and the block is installed.
Example:
REPLACE INTO gl_blocks (bid,name,title,help,type,blockorder,content,tid,rdfurl,rdfupdated,rdflimit,phpblockfn, onleft,owner_id,group_id,perm_owner,perm_group,perm_members,perm_anon,is_enabled)
VALUES (,'refer','Refer Folks to the Daily Kenoshan!','','phpblock','40','','homeonly','','','0',' phpblock_referal',1,2,4,3,2,2,2,1)
PRODUCES ERROR
removing the 'bid'
REPLACE INTO gl_blocks (name,title,help ...etc... VALUES ('refer','Refer Folks ... etc ...
Makes it work.

That sounds like the wrong approach.
From a quick look at the source, I'd say the problem is that some of the parameters are not treated as numbers when COM_applyFilter is applied to them. Have to look into that ...
Interestingly enough, I don't get any errors on a MySQL 5.0.16 / PHP 5.1.2rc1 setup.

My immediate response was gonna be "of course! When have I ever made a mistake before?" hehheh, but then, I didn't get to four forum stars by giving advice!
I did move my entire old 1.3.11 out and install 1.4. But its dawning on me now that the stuff I've moved back could have overwritten some significant files. I'm going to re-do it all tonight. No-Doz at hand.

Standard "Go Daddy" Problem with Geeklog.
GoDaddy and Shield host etc.. Will NOT give LOCK access to your database.
Results in SQL error to error.log.
You as a user are not the owner of the database and cannot give yourself LOCK access to the databases.
As a fix users can comment out the following lines in Geeklog-1.4.0rc1
THIS IS NOT AN IDEAL FIX, and can cause comment to be lost in the database, overwritten, and data in the comment could be made public as technically two comments could end up with the same comment number.
Still if you have no choice here is the workaround that will get you going if your not afraid to lose a comment, or breach the security on a potential post.
847: // DB_query("LOCK TABLES {$_TABLES['comments']} WRITE");
873: // DB_query('UNLOCK TABLES');
978: //DB_query("LOCK TABLES {$_TABLES['comments']} WRITE");
997: //DB_query('UNLOCK TABLES');
Here's hoping we can get a warning file, and an option in the config file if we are stuck with a cheapy service provider who won't fix this for us.
Note: if its an option find a service provider that will give you LOCK access to your own database. No matter what they say, LOCK access will not allow someone to breach their security.

Hi, my post is actually not a bug report but some requests.
1. Is it possible to add 'img' in allowed_html tags.
2. When adding users with 'batch add', geeklog send e-mails to users. But I want to turn off this feature. It is good to select this feature using options.
3. For user name. 16 bytes are too short using Japanese name. Is it possible to modify it to something like 108 bytes?

The IMG tag is filtered out for security reasons. You can easily add it (at your own risk), though, if your really want. See the
FAQ[*8] for details.

I don't really want to add new functionality at this point in the release cycle. Please submit a feature request once our project site is back online.
[QUOTE BY= sakata] 3. For user name. 16 bytes are too short using Japanese name. Is it possible to modify it to something like 108 bytes? [/QUOTE]
The username is just that - a (short) user name, used for the login and as a "nickname". I don't think anyway would want to type in their full name just to log into the site, especially if you happen to have a rather long name ...
There's always the full name field in a user's profile where they can add their first and last name (currently limited to 80 characters, though that's a pretty arbitrary limit). We are working on making it possible to display the full name instead of the username everywhere in Geeklog (see $_CONF['show_fullname'] in config.php), but that's not fully implemented in 1.4.0.

After years of using gallery, I still have to come back to search for the answer of why a user with Story Admin permission can't edit his or her own story. When I found the answer, I always wonder why I keep forgetting it is because the topic permission.
I wonder if this can be called a bug? Somehow, I feel this needs to be improve for userfriendliness, without compromizing privacy or security. Even Gallery has a config setting to allow owner to edit his or her own photo.
-----------------
After some thoughts, I think it is a bug because when a story is saved the permission boxes has owner read and edit checked. Since they are checked, logically the owner should be able to edit. Of course it is not a bug introduced by 1.4. It's an acient bug.

If a user submits a comment with orphaned html tags, this can create some havoc. For example, if the user forgets to close a bold tag, then all following user comments become boldfaced. Ideally these orphaned tags should be stripped out, or the comment be rejected due to malformed html.

I've noticed that, in the advanced editor, in the body textarea, it keeps adding a "br" tag there in HTML mode if the Body Text box is left blank. I can see it when I switch into Plain Old Text. But if I erase it and flip back to HTML mode, it reappears. To make matters worse, it shows up on the article as (1 word - read more) even though there's no other text there. Weird.
It seems like there's an errant newline somewhere in there that gets repeatedly conveted to a "br" and inserted in there if the body field is blank. I just can't figure out where it's coming from.

I upgraded a 1.3.11 site which has a couple of long static pages. They became truncated and messed up the the layout (pushing the right block elsewhere because the table tag wasn't closed).
The staticpage MySQL table seems to be the same, but why does 1.4.0 stop accepting long pages?
I changed the MySQL setting for sp_content to "MediumText" and solved the problem. However, I think this should not happen, so there must be a bug somewhere.

I am testing 1.4.0 and really love it! I actually can't wait the release 1.4.0!
FCKEditor is also a good thing.
Anyway, I am not sure if it is bug or not.
When sending e-mails to my group, someimes, the system doesn't send the mail to root user.
Looking at ug_main_grp_id, some root user doesn't register to the group and some are registered.
Both user are shown in the group member list.
Do you understand what I mean?
(Sorry, about my poor English)

About documentation.
I think notification allows 'link' too in the submission settings.

Not any more. Since the Links are a plugin now, this is now an option in the Links plugin's config.php file.

On a fresh install of 1.4.0rc1, if I create a new user and make them a member of the Stories Admin group, the user can create a story, but does not have the ability to edit stories. It seems that a user must be a root user to edit a story.

Setting up a Story Admin[*9]
You can also set the default permissions for new stories now (in config.php).

Since this has become such a frequent confusion, why don't we have the Topic Admin edit box checked as default for the new topics. Since most of the time a person with a Story Admin permission is also a Topic Admin.
This will reduce the confusion, at least to some extend. That's how I do it.
A better level correction would be "if the author is a Story Admin, then the author is allow to edit his own story."

As of recent nightly CVS, which is getting ready for rc2, the 'body' tag of the css is replaced by the FCKeditor's css, if the advanced editor is chosen.
So you can't change the body's background color or anything else related to the body, unless you change it through FCKeditor's css.
I wonder how useful, or important, that FCKeditor's css is. I haven't yet carefully look at the difference. For the time being I just comment out the css redirection in the "advanced_editor_header.thml" so that I can use the style.css.
This can be a bug because it will hinder theme development.
Sam
---------added-------------
I found that by commeting out the css file pointer for FCKeditor in advanced_editor_header.thml does not affect FCKeditor. FCKeditor still uses the css from the fck_editorarea.css. So it seems that that line is not necessary.

More bug:
If you login from domain/admin page, you get the error "Connot modify header information" from auth.inc.php file, and there is no "white space" at the end of that file.
"echo $display" is the line that produced the error.
If you log in normally from the User Functions box, this does not happen.
Sam
-----------added------------------------
You can reproduce the error on this site. Just goto
Geeklog.net/admin[*10] and try to log in.

in IE
Created a new group called Faculty.
The new group isn't shown in the group list or in the possible selections for permissions in the story editor.
but it's in the DB. So it's been created...
Looking at it further it looks to be a cookie refresh deal... Pulled up in Firefox without a problem, cleared out the cookies in IE and it was all good...
So going into more specifics... I've enabled the wysiwig, the people who are wanting this will want it as easy to use as possible. That's the only change made to the config file so far except for the mandatory set up stuff. It's refreshing when the wysiwig isn't turned on, but once it's enabled and a new group is added the new group won't show up until such point as the cookies are refreshed.
