I know this is probably a Novell or Apache issue, but I thought I'd try here, too. I'm installing GL 1.3.11 on a new Novell OES (essentially Netware 6.5) server with Apache 2 and PHP 5.
My document root is SYS:/Apache2/htdocs/web/, with config.php residing here:
SYS:/Apache2/htdocs/config.php
When I hit Step 1 while running install.php, it gives me the hint path for install.php (SYS:/Apache2/htdocs/web/admin/install/install.php)
but no matter where I put config.php, Geeklog can't find it. I've even tried putting everything in the document root, and it still can't find it.
Geeklog Installation - Error
Geeklog could not find config.php in the path you just entered: SYS:/Apache2/htdocs/config.php
Please check this path and try again. Remember that you should be using absolute paths, starting at the root of your file system.
Any thoughts?

Have you edited lib-common.php to point to the config file?

Fixed it!
Per Guenter on Novell's developer forum:
I guess your probs come simply from more strict access control;
I would open sys:/php5/php.ini and comment the open_basedir line . . .
adding keywords to help anyone searching this forum: Netware, Novell Open Enterprise Server, OES, PHP 5
