Hello all. I have a 'new' statistcs plugin which needs testers.
Here's my description from the readme:
The Geeklog Usage Stats [GUS] plugin is based on the venerable stats plugin v1.3 by Tom Willett and John Hughes. Some of this documentation is based on their work as well. I decided it needed some cleanup and updating to work with the latest version of geeklog, and Tom mentioned he wasn't going to continue supporting it. I thought this was going to be a quick week's work. Wrong! As I got into it, I found I wanted to fix this and that, optimise this a bit... oh and tweak that... Eventually I decided to do a major overhaul. It's a month later and the GUS plugin is the result.
I chose to keep the interface more or less the same for now. The major difference between the two plugins is what's under the hood. I made the following changes to the database:
* moved user agents to their own table
* use the SQL date and time formats
* removed redundant fields
I also changed the name of the plugin from 'stats' to 'gus', eliminated the 'name the plugin whatever you want' functionality, put all the documentation in this readme, added the ability to import stats from the stats plugin, and changed the installation/upgrade mechanism. I probably did some other things too...
The changes to the database will improve performance and require less space. I don't have any real statistics on this, but it reduced a 10M database to less than 5M and it is noticeably faster when accessing stats.
...
So, I'm looking for some victims to try it out. Ideally I would like at least a couple of people with huge DBs under the stats plugin. I use PHP 5.x, though it should work under 4.x so I would need some testers using that. I also use MySQL 4.1.10, so anyone with 4.0.x would be useful. I don't believe it will work under MySQL 3.x.
If anyone want to test drive it and give me feedback, please email me - I'm looking for four or five people. Please tell me what your setup is: which OS, which versions of MySQL and PHP you are using, and roughly how big your current stats DB is.
Thanks!
- Andy

Hooray I will test it for you, however, I am leaving on business this weekend and will not have a chance to do it till the end of next week. Glad you finally worked through it -- there was lots of room for improvement.

I'm game - I can't tell you the OS, except its probably a Linux distro.
php - 4.3.10
mysql - 4.0.24
I don't know what you'd consider a big DB, but I've been up for a year, and for March alone I had 2737 anonymous visitors, although most of those were hits from Google image search.

1) Thank you
2) Sometime in the next week or so, I'll upgrade my GL (http://www.small.to) to the latest version.
3) Site's been up for a while, but I only have about 6 months of stats DB.
4) Thank you
5) March is our best month to date...~1300 visitors/day
6) Yup, it's slow for me...so performance improvements sound nice.
7) Thank you
gus@small.to will get to me...

I still need a few people...
C'mon, there must be people out there that enjoy being test subjects!

My experience with the stats plugin is that it really slows down the query time by the seconds. This only after one month, and the database grew from 2MB to 15MB.
So i removed it now.
It would be great if this GUS plugin solves those problems.
I forgot, i'm using PHP 5.0.3 and mysql 4.1.8

1) GUS install was incredibly easy and error-free.
2) So far, this looks great!
3) While I'm at it, Mr. Maloney's Amazon plugin is pretty nifty, too (and enables you to support it by giving a fraction of your referrals to his Associates ID, which is pretty darn cool.)
