Thought I did well. Logged in, saw the install icon and got this:

The installation instructions indicate you need to copy the provided lib-portalparts.php to the geeklog/system directory. The error message is indicating this file is missing.

You are prompt and helpful. Point me to the instructions and maybe I will get this right. Trying to craft an installation based on similar advice.

The installation documentation is part of the plugin archive - refer to the file install_doc.html in the plugins/forum directory.

Okay followed directions: Getting very close. When I want to add forum topics, I get this:
filename: file /home/content/h/2/o/h2oguyofnh/html/geeklog/public_html/layout/clean/forum/layout/admin/boards_listcategory_footer.thtml does not exist.
Halted.
so I ftp over to the my server and it certainly is there
forum shows up on site, icons not, most admin tools seem to work

Maybe a little of topic, but do have a look at this
topic[*1]
You might want to consider reinstalling your core geeklog as per the instructions. as your current setup is very insecure (e.g. anyone can read your errorlog).
I am not sure if it is related, but I can recall an earlier message that installing the forum in such a config is/can/could give problems.
Best Regards,
Boris

Ckofer,
if you have confirmed 100% the template file exists in the path that is indicated in the error message -- then check permissions on the directories and file to ensure the webserver has read access.

I guess it couldn't hurt to reinstall those files. I am certain the directory is there.
ck, hoping some day to be helpful to someone else in my position

So many people use the plugins that make use of portal parts, maybe it's time to just include it in the geeklog core.

found that file in question was missing a letter in its name (last one). I've gotten much further. Forum works for signed-in folks. Don't have smileys & html assistants working yet.
