Okay I'm attempting to create my own RSS By Authors plugin/hack.
I'm studying the lib-syndication.php file where all the magic happens. Dirk, you're right, this entire file would basically need to be rewritten.
I see where the list of topics are coming from. $_TABLES['topics'] Is the list of authors $_TABLES['authors']?

$_TABLES['topics'] is just a variable that holds the name of the database table that contains the topics. There is no such table for the authors.
An SQL request that returns a list of all authors (i.e. every user that has posted a story) can be found in function editpreferences in usersettings.php (search for "SELECT DISTINCT").

I'm looking through the code in users.php, it already lists the last 10 posts for that author so I'll borrow that code.
