I am not a ubergeek, so Im just putting this out to the creator or other l33t haxors.
Has anyone thought of creating a forum type post page for the contribute stories page . What I mean by that is make it so it would be exactly the same interphase as the forum topic creation page. I think that would be cool, would it be hard to do?
Oh, and If you hacked it, would you share it too?

seems to me that it would only involve editing your template files.
adding some color, borders, a box maybe... is that what you are talking about? or something more drastic like changing the way the form functions? --like smilies, and buttons for html, etc...
if it is just the look of it, editing a template file or two, AFAIK, should do the job. otherwise, the code doesn't support such things as mentioned above and editing the code would be fairly intensive I would think.

Yes
I meant the whole layout the same as the forum post is, adding emoticons , url, code buttons etc. If it were added to Geeklog it would be a popular hack (or even update if they considered it) I bet.
I Hope someone looks deeper into it, as Im just not good enought yet to take on such a task.

Why not use the fckeditor - it even supports smilies as a toolbar option. Granted works best with IE.
I've even been testing it as an integrated component when posting in the forum and turned off the default toolbar that I have in the forum. I have this setup as you will see (IE Only) if you post on my site.
I use this component instead of HTMLArea and integrated into the contribute story template works well.

Does not work BEST with IE.
It ONLY works with IE.
IE specific plug ins are useless to us who have migrated over to better browsers with decent security.
I work at a company that works with the global 2000 and we have FireFox because of all the serious security flaws in IE now and the editor you mention is totally broken for us users.

Yep - but for some users this may be fine. I only offer an option that is very easy to add and my business users love it. I recognize that may not be acceptable to non-IE users.
