Hi,
Anyone know of any K12 Education sites using Geeklog? I have an opportunity to introduce GL to a school district and would love to be able to show a sample working K12 site as well.
Thanks.

I'm going to be the webmaster for my kids at their elementary school for the 2004-2005 year. I managed to pull this off I think in part by convincing a few teachers and the principal of the concepts they could see on the geeklog I run for my family at
marquand.net[*1] . However, running a geeklog on the school servers is just not possible. My kids attend an alternative elementary school that's part of a very large metropolitan school district that only allows static content with no server side includes .
It is my goal, however, to "tilt at the windmills" so to speak and attempt to host some (most?!) of the content on a domain that I've offered to purchase. I have to present the ideas and concepts to the "communications commission" before it is allowed.
Good luck to you.

Update! I've gotten the go ahead from the communications office to host the site on my own. I'll update this posting once I get the site up and running for the fall session.

Hi Guys!
I've been running a K12 education site using Geeklog for a little over 2 years. I'm the IT facilitator or IU#10 in Pennsylvania, and we support our school districts in a 3 county area. Our Technology website is hosted in house, using Geeklog. You're welcome to check it out, and to participate in any of our discussions and topics. This year, we're trying out a new software package for doing IEP's and tracking data. It's called eGoals, and I set up a special section for our new eGoals users. The nice thing about Geeklog is it's ability to generate an RDF feed of the sections (in this case the eGoals section). That gives the software developers "instant access" to any questions or comments posted by our users. Plus, Geeklog's built-in calendaring functions let us schedule meetings and trainings right on the site, and then notify our users via email from within Geeklog!
The URL is
macweb.ciu10.com[*2]
Enjoy!

The site is starting to come together now. Using geeklog is such a huge change from the totally static site (containing inconsistent and out of date info) they had before that it's going to be a little while before the faculty, staff, parents, committees, and kids start considering the site as a useful tool. However, I'm going to continue my one-man crusade and "build it so they will come". If I do not build it, they most certainly will not come.

Your best bet would be to create an example that you produced yourself in order to show your skills even tho the skills may not be your own. You have to know that your client will say, "WoW, did you do that?" You don't want to answer no. just set up a site and add some example articles, a cool theme, some education links, etc. ...and then say, "This can all be yours, for the low low price of.."

There is a high school site in California using Geeklog:

They have several Geeklog sites running, actually.

I just got
Indianola Alternative Elementary School[*5] up to speed on the latest geeklog and introduced forums to them. It's taken almost the entire year to get a "not so web-savvy" user base to think of the website as anything of interest but I think the tides may be turning. I'm up to 110 registered users and get high praises about the site. Especially for the Gallery integration holding images from major school functions.
