I see your working on 1.9 and was thinking.
Can you put something that will check with Plug-ins and see if they have something to add to what's new.
That will be great for programs like.
Journal, File Management, gallery.
The one complaint I hear from people on my site is it's to hard to understand.
I fill there just over whelmed with boxes.
This will fix that.

That is a good idea that had been mentioned before.
For now, if you really want to minimize the number of boxes on your site, you can create your own what's new block by copying and pasting together all of the other blocks. I have done that with File Management.

Thats great for people good at php. lol
But I'm not so great.
I just want to put new journals and new gallery pics in there. (no pic just link to it)
But the code is not going to be much like whats there.
The reason is journals have smileys.
And the galley is a pain cuz you can't let it add links that people don't have permission to see.

FYI (from
docs/history[*1] in CVS):
- Plugins can now add their new entries to the What's New block by implementing
the new plugin_whatsnewsupported and plugin_getwhatsnew API functions.
This section can be enabled/disabled with the new $_CONF['hidenewplugins']
config variable.
bye, Dirk
