I've been working on integrating phpMyChat as a plugin and I'm almost done. I have the user piece pretty much complete and I'm working on the admin piece this weekend.
So far the user piece lets users see links to rooms based on thier rights. The user/password databases are syncronized. (only one way Geeklog -> phpMyChat). When the user clicks on a room link it takes him/her directly to that room without the need to login to phpmychat.
I'm hoping to work out the Admin interface this weekend. It should let the admin create rooms and assign permissions to them based on geeklog rights.
The security on phpmychat isn't the best in the world. Once inside phpmychat if you know what you are doing you can get to other rooms without any trouble at all, but for the casual user and site, it isn't bad...
If you are interested in getting the plugin when I'm done please reply and let me know..

Chatterblock 3.0 was written for GL AFAIK. So the answer would be most certainly be yes. However, chatterblock is more or less a "shoutout box" for quick messages. It is not a full fledged chat like phpMyChat would be. A standalone running demo of phpMyChat can be found here:
www.opensourcecms.com/phpmychat[*1]
An example of the chatterblock can be found at
www.portalparts.com[*2] or
www.squatty.com[*3] .

That rocks. Can't wait to see the release. Let me know if you need any testers. I have a fairly active site and with MSN's recent outages my users are flocking to my Java IRC Integrated Chat which crashes their PC's half the time

I got the admin interface working last night. You can assign the usual sorts of geeklog permissions to rooms, you can pick the name of room and a description that shows up in a room list. I also added a sort order field so that you can specify how the rooms are show in the room list.
I still have just a couple of small hacks to make to phpmychat to clean up things like where to go when exiting, not showing other chatrooms that you don't have access to, etc..
I'll put up a test version on my site later in the week..

Notime,
When viewing a persons info (clicking their username in the chat) it displays their email address which is not good. It should show the "Send Email" link instead...

Looks like I forgot to addslashes to the values from your gl_users table....
I believe there is a setting in phpmychat's config.lib.php3 that turns the email line off... I'll see if I can find it.

A lot of time has past indeed! Looks like it was abandoned? I'm using FlashChat by tufat.com, but although its a wonderful package and integrates perfectly into Geeklog, it doesn't like when more than 8 or 9 people are in and slows to a trickle. And if your users are on dialup, they consistently get booted from chat.
I would be very interested in phpMyChat to replace FlashChat!

Right, so flash chat does not seem to be the one to go for. On the other hand I have a probem with the idea of email addresses being visible. Can this be turned off? has anybody experience with phpMyChat an the integration into geeklog?
What about phpOpenChat?
phpBB can integrate phpMyChat!

I tried the phpmychat at http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=547
The Link had changed!
You can test it there and when you register you are being asked if you want others to see your email address. You don`t need to tick yes. So there must be a way in the plugin to turn it off too. Maybe "notime" can tell how to do this? Would be nice if you uploaded your plugin here at geeklog.net anyway. One could also tell the developers at phpMyChat how to integrate it into geeklog or leave a link there. http://phpmychat.sourceforge.net/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=7
I don`t know how much server power it consumes but the windows refresh every 5 seconds or so. Another very interesting thing is that phpBB can integrate phpMyChat! If you want a chat plugin you certainly need a forum too.
It seems to have a problem with firefox though. The send and color change box aren`t visible at the bottom.
