Could somebody PLEASE write a hack that would intergrate the Geeklog & IPB members database together?
Thank you!

IPB...what is that? Also search this site for CMS Bridge...you could probably use that.

I have been looking for the CMS bridge as well - the site that it was originally hosted on no longer exists. Anyone have it?

IPB = Invision Power Board
It's a free forum software, but it's much better than phpBB...

Sorry Jag,
I was actually responding to the two posts above mine. That will teach me not to quote.

Oh, I'm sorry, Jag! How about I stop working and spend all weekend writing a Geeklog IPB integration just for you?
Give me a break.
If you want something like that, then go write it yourself. If you don't know how or don't feel like it, then hire someone else to do it for you. No one is going to write you an integration like that out of the goodness of their heart. No one. Especially when it is an integration between two free systems. Maybe if Geeklog wasn't free, then a Geeklog developer would help you out to rope you in as a customer. But as it stands, no one would benefit at all from writing an integration between Geeklog and an esoteric forum system other than you.
There are only a couple ways that integrations like this get written:
1) Someone who needs the integration writes it.
2) Someone who needs the integration pays someone else to write it.
Obviously, none of the Geeklog developers have wanted to incorporate IPB members into one of their own Geeklog sites, otherwise one of them would have probably written and released code to do so.
Since you want such an integration, write it yourself or hire someone else to do it. Either way, quit complaining. The developers have already sacrificed hundreds of hours to bring you this incredible CMS; one that doesn't cost you a thing.

Turias is most certainly correct. There is a difference between free-software and free-loader-software. Free software is given away freely, but it doesn't mean that no-one ever made contributions (time or money) to develop it. Many, many 'free' open source programs/features have been developed because someone paid a programmer to develop what they needed.
This idea that somehow all of the programmers of the world are going to quit their jobs are write free software for everyone is absurd. Part of the reason that people, and now many companies, are willing to provide open-source software is with the hope and expectation that other people will improve the software, and further its development. If you're not willing to do _something_ to contribute back, then you are free-loading.
Think about what you're asking. You're saying that someone should spend 20 hours of their own time to produce something for you for free, that they don't personally care about. It sounds like you know html, would you be willing to spend 20 hours developing a website for free, for something that you have no personal connection to?
Please examine reality a little closer,
Exaurdon

This is defo phpBB and if its not its a good copy.
I havnt seen anything like this for
invision[*3] so if you made a version for
invision[*3] you would have 100% of the market and would be able to make people pay much easier just like
invision[*3] do make them pay for copyright removel and support.
If it dosnt work out what have you lost? a week of time? thats no big deal.

Real freindly croud out here...
I see nothing wrong with Jag asking for a modifaction to be written, for free. I do think it's sad that he gets flamed for it.
It's obvious that people choose to use GL because it is free, and most people using GL are probably teenagers who don't have a lot of cash.
IMO, it's not that "amazing" for someone using a free rpoduct, with no cash, to ask for a free modifaction.
Jag didn't get all huffy at anyone, so I think it's pretty rude of you guys to get huffy at him.
Seems he's moved on anyway, but I still of rather digusted at you guys.

Bob: Jag didn't get all huffy at anyone, so I think it's pretty rude of you guys to get huffy at him.
What was he doing here? Please note that no-one complained when he asked for an integration, just when he started acting as if he was entitled to it.

I agree, but to ask is one thing, to expect and demand is another, particularly if you're not willing to contribute.
My issue with this is that I write software for a living. I think Open Source software is great, but it doesn't grow on trees. Someone has to write it, and as I explained before, if you're not willing/able to write something yourself then you're asking for a big favor. I write code for open-source projects when it interests me. When it is not of interest to me, then it is _work_. Sometimes I don't mind doing work for free, but I get annoyed by the attitude of people like Jag, who _expect_ someone to work for them for free.
It is farily standard that people who want custom modifications generally have to pay for them. That is one of the points of most open-source business-plans. If you want to see more companies release their software as open source, they need to see that they can still make money. This is often achieved by providing customization services.

Wow, I should really keep in touch more
For the record, I was NOT "demanding" or thinking I was "entitled" to this mod.
I was simply stating that saying "Well, make it worth my while and I may think about it" was not something I was going to do.
If I wanted to pay for it, I would have said I was willing to pay.
However, for something such as this, I'm not willing to pay as it's not "mission-critical" to my site.
IMO, the way in which the "I'll do it for a price" was just as rude, if not much more, then my reply telling him to buzz off.

Here is just my suggestion. If you look around on just about most popular CMS development forums you will find a question/discussion just like this one.
e107: Main Site[*4]
PHP-Nuke: Main Site[*5]
Drupal: Main Site[*6]
etc . . .
You can trust me on that. I used to be just like Jag. Posting in just about every forum and trying to find out if they had some script that could put the CMS Members and put their info into the forums (IP
members stuff. Well after a lot of searching and trying to do it myself I decided that if none of the good CMS scripts didn’t come with it then pick the best CMS and just use their forum. Well, I ended up with Geeklog because of their security and overall features. I would just like to say that with GL being free, the best, and very secure and then if it came with an option to interrogate it with Invision PowerBoard then you would have a lot of new Geeklog users using it on their site.
