This is a cool tip that should save you some hassles with errors on Themes installs.
Theme designers don\'t need to recreate a bunch of files for themes, so they don\'t. That means if you just drop a theme directory into /public_html/layout/myNewTheme/ and try to load it via Preferences, you might get an error that talks about topicoption.thtml missing!
Here is an easy hassle-free way to do this right
using windows language).
In
/public_html/layout please do the following:
1) Make a
COPY of an existing theme
2) Rename the directory the
SAME name as the new theme
(ex: XP, sleek, orange, ...)
3) Copy your .rar or .tar file over to /public_html/layout/
Make sure it\'s just a compression of the top theme folder, not a directory within a directory.
Extract it into the NAME listed in #2 above
With WinRAR this is usually done with \"Extract Here\"
Say
YES when it asks to overwrite files
Now you have a new theme without the hassle of missing files.
(Why designers don\'t do this for you I don\'t know!)
Great idea! Why haven\'t I thought of that?
My plan was to upload one of the 1.3.8 theme overy the existing one. I use SmartFTP so I can choose \'Skip\' every file with the same name.

Well, depending on what order you do this in, it may be the opposite.
If you follow the instructions above, then you want to OVERWRITE all the duplicates, so the new theme sets in.
But make sure you are working with a COPY of a theme
