Hi,
I have a pretty big project that I would like make into a plugin. I read in the developer documentation that the v2.0 plugin API will be different. As this is going to consume a LOT of my time, should I wait for 2.0 rather than develop it all over again?

v2 is quite a ways from being viable. I would shoot for the current code base.
