NEED TRAFFIC TO YOUR GEEKLOG SITE?
for RSS auto-discovery you need to have this in your header.html file, in the head area:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS" href="url/to/rss/file">
you should also place the XML button somewhere with a link to your newsfeed and don't forget to list your newsfeeds on sites that syndicate. (example: http://www.syndic8.com )

I don't know how widely this is supported but it sounds like a good idea. Here's some background information[*1] .

Does this work with RDF files as well? Can one substitute 'rdf' for 'rss'?

RSS and RDF are basically just different names for the same thing ...
You should leave the type="application/rss+xml" alone.
The title="RSS" is just that - a title. So title="Newsfeed" would be okay, too.
