Hi Everyone,
I have just installed my first CMS & I am Geeked. Its just great!
Now can somebody tell me how can I publish news in other languages like Chinese, Russian, Hind, etc.. along with English while the default language of Geeklog is English.
Because now all I get is garbled text.
Thanks in advance,
C Dhanjal

Well, it seems like we have a problem with some foreign character sets. See this example[*1] (if that's what you mean by "garbled").
If that's not what you meant, then maybe the problem is simply selecting the correct character set?

Thanks a lot Dirk for your quick reply.
Yes it the problem I have. All the text is garbled as in the example.
But in my case I was trying an Indian language, which normally just works with the font installed on the PC.
Any suggestion or ideas?

Isn't this more related to the encoding the user has selected in their browser, or is the browser smart enough to figure it out on its own? I go to a lot of Japanese sites and I've noticed that sometimes I have to manually select my encoding.
This has given me another idea for a cool mod/plugin for Geeklog, but I'll start another thread for it...

Hi Dirk,
How can one use a different font inside the html of the certain News stories?
I would like to use one of the Indian languages (Punjabi) & for that I have a font installed on my PC.
Thanks in advance,
C Dhanjal

I don't think you can. An HTML page (and what Geeklog sends to the browser is, in the end, simply an HTML page) can only have one character set. So you will need to find a character set that includes all the characters you want to use.
Sounds like a job for Unicode, but I have no idea how good that works in the real world just now ...
bye, Dirk

Would you be willing to write it, I will pay for it ?
Also does anybody already have a fully moded Geeklog including phpBB. image gallery & osCommerce. Or would somebody do it, I will pay.

hI GUYS..
I am trying to find out the same thing that is being discussed on this forum.. I would like to keep english as the default language for the site, but at the same time use a new language (maldivian) which i dont think has a unicode file yet. However, if someone could direct me to the right place where i can learn and find examples on how to create a new language file or anything that would help me have the option to post some stories in maldivian and most of the others in english.
hope someone can help.
adios

AFAIK, as soon as you set your language file to UTF-8, no matter what language that is, you can WRITE content in any language. The menus however will stay depending on your language file. The content can be what you like.
