I know that there have been a lot of postings regarding this and I've searched for a few hours last night on how to resolve my path issue but to no avail.
I have also sent an email to my hosting company to see if they can help with telling me what my "absolute" path names. Here is the error that I get. I must say that I've tried many different combinations.Fatal error: Failed opening required 'home/virtual/site208/fst/var/www/olwigb/olwig/' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/virtual/site208/fst/var/www/html/olwig.familynotepad.com/lib-common.php on line 65
A couple of questions.
Can I use sub-domains? I'd like the ability to set-up many geeklogs under subdomains of my website www.familynotepad.com. (i.e. olwig.familynotepad.com) My hosting company supports sub-domains by creating a directory under my document root directory. I've done this and it seems to serve up the public html files ok.
Can config.php and the other non-public files/directories reside anywhere? I'd like to create a separate non-public directory for each sub-domain to store the config.php and other system files.
Sorry for the rambling message but I can't give up--geeklog looks perfect for what I'm trying to do.
Best Regards,

If you don't know your paths, then just call up the install script. On the first page, it will give you the complete path to itself as a "hint". You should be able to figure your paths out with that hint.
Yes, you can use subdomains. You may need to adjust the cookiedomain and/or cookie_path variables (in config.php), though, if you're running several Geeklog sites off of the same main domain.
You can separate Geeklog into two parts: The contents of the public_html directory and everything else. You can put these into two different directories, which can be basically everwhere. Just make sure $_CONF['path'] and $_CONF['public_html'] point to them.

One thing that jumps out at me immediately is this path. It _probably_ should read:
/home/virtual/site208/fst/var/www/olwigb/olwig/
(note the leading slash).
If you don't understand why those two are different, try a google search for the difference between absolute and relative path names.
Good Luck,
