I have tried out nuke, postnuke, and a couple of other php blog systems. All except geeklog at some point gave me big ugly out of memory errors. That convinced me of the virtue of geeklog.
PHP-Nuke and Geeklog

Hey. :-)
I've spent about two weeks setting up PHP-Nuke 5.6 on Windows XP. Now I'm going to customize Geeklog.
It seems like Geeklog pages on my site load more slowly than Nuke. Maybe it's my imagination. Geeklog was far easier to install than Nuke. There were several issues I had to research with Nuke's installation, some of them only being resolved myself, which is something I didn't expect from software with a version number of 5.6 (for Christ's sake). In fact, that's one of the biggest reasons I opted primarily for Nuke. Since Geeklog is praised for its good coding and good security I'm going to stick with it until something horrible happens. I'm thinking it won't.
Plug-ins, plug-ins, plug-ins. :-) I'll be happy when I can migrate my PHBB2 to Geeklog, as well as a nice, robust, image/thumbnail gallery. For now I'll just pretend.
How's that?

You may want to look at the integration of gallery and GL. If you are not familiar with gallery - it is quite feature rich and I am quite pleased with it. The integration is documented and is quite easy to complete.

And you can get the info on how to integrate Gallery into Geeklog at http://gplugs.sourceforge.net/. The integration info has not been updated since Geeklog 1.3.7, but it is reported to still work fine with Geeklog 1.3.8.

another is 4images which is available @
here
the integration
here and the random photo block
here
an example... the all-mighty work in progress

4images has a plugin called MPC (Member Personal Category) which allows people to create their own personal pic gallery... if i knew what i was doing i would try integrating that into geeklogs userphoto. However, I don\'t see it as being that attractive of a plugin/hack and at the moment this is far beyond my skillset.
