If you\'re rebuilding your server I can seriously recommend adding a second, identical, hard drive and creating a RAID-1 mirror.

Even implementing this as a software RAID-1 mirror on a Linux machine brings great peace of mind when one of those hard drives fails.

I routinely do this with any server I construct. If you have the space/money you can even put in a third drive as a redundant spare allowing you to quickly bring the mirror back into operation and toss out the broken drive.

Linux and the various flavours of BSD support this scheme of operation. You can actually benefit from parallel reads from the two drives giving a little performance boost.
