We've established it's needed, but why is it not needed when surfing to the actual map site?

Also, should I get an API for my Google username or for each of my sites?

Probably because Google Maps has a Google Maps key? Or even more likely, they probably do not require themselves to have a key. You, on the other hand, have to agree to the TOS for the use of their API.

Yes you will need a key for each site.

Note that we do not need key for local install on test site (http://localhost).--- Support and French community | http://geeklog.fr
