Videos 0.20.0 is now available for Geeklog, bringing a smoother and more polished video experience for your site visitors.

This release focuses on what users actually notice: faster and more predictable browsing, cleaner presentation, better discovery of interesting videos, and a catalogue that feels more integrated with the rest of your Geeklog site.

A smoother public video catalogue

Videos 0.20.0 keeps public catalogue rendering local to your Geeklog installation.

Visitor requests no longer need to trigger external YouTube synchronization in the background. This makes page delivery more predictable and avoids unnecessary external API activity while someone is simply browsing your site.

For visitors, that means a more consistent experience when exploring your video catalogue.

Better presentation and discovery

The public catalogue now relies on native Geeklog templates, making it easier for site owners and theme developers to adapt the presentation to their site.

Video cards, thumbnails and catalogue layouts are easier to integrate visually, while local popularity data and rankings help surface content that visitors are actually engaging with.

Videos can also expose popular content using qualified local view counts, while its dedicated ranking system can continue to use richer signals for recommendations.

The result is a catalogue that does more than list videos: it helps visitors discover what is worth watching.

More control for site owners

Behind the public experience, Videos 0.20.0 introduces a stronger architecture for administrators.

The plugin keeps editorial control over the catalogue, ratings, recommendations, moderation and local statistics while improving storage safety, upgrade handling and multisite support.

It also exposes shared capabilities that can be consumed by other Geeklog components such as Eclipse, Agent and Hub.

For example, Eclipse can display Videos information directly in its administration dashboard without accessing the plugin's private storage.

Built for both older and newer Geeklog installations

Videos 0.20.0 remains compatible with Geeklog 2.1.1 through 2.2.2 and PHP 5.6 through 8.1, making it suitable for sites that are still in transition toward newer Geeklog and PHP environments.

The upgrade path from Videos 0.19.0 is supported directly and does not require a database or persistent-data migration.
