DirecWay by DirecTV sucks!!! Their HTTP proxy really slows initial connections down, though once any of my up/downloads start going, the speeds are still comparable to Cable/DSL.

Direcway sucks due to the FAP (Fair Access Policy) it will only allow you to download 169mb of data in a 4 hour time period, and when you reach that limit they slow your throughput down to a 56k speed. It compares in no way to any other broadband service I have seen or used. Could be great without FAP.

Dear Friends,

I have just read and signed the online petition:

"DirecPC must remove their "Fair Access Policy""

hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition
service, at:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/dpcfap/

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might
agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider
signing yourself.

I gave up on my local cable provided for net access because the decided to a) go to DHCP and b) filter ports 80 and 443. Now I\'m on a 256KB (no throttle) DSL line with two static IP\'s and no limitations as to what I can do with my server.

how big is the difference in speed and reliability tony?
i have cable now, and they also switched us to dhcp and filtered port 80.
but i just forwarded traffic to another port to all files i link to on my local server.
and their dhcp lease times are a day or so, and i\'ve retained the same ip for over 6 months now.

Most corporations will not allow you to point your browser to a webserver on ports other than the standard 80 and 443. Therefore just hosting a webserver on another port is not an option for other than the most superficial hobby use.

I\'ve had cable and now on DSL and frankly see no difference in performance. I dont think there are any general technical reasons why one should be better than the other. Of course connectivity always depends on the ISP\'s connectivity.

LOL! I guess there aren't any people on broadband? I thought being right under a T1 (Satelite/broadband)- was a good thing. Seems everyone is still using, DSL and cable. Hardly any on T1's either. I feel left out! Love that connection speed though! I guess the only good thing about it no one clogs up the dish. LOL! This was a great poll! Really opened my eyes on what is prefered. I thought most people were on broadband but I see I was wrong. So can anyone explain the ADSL thing to me? It seems to be very popular. Is it faster than regualr DSL? What is the difference of it? Or between it? And what is the price range? Is it like DSL where you need the line ran by the phone company (DSL LINES I mean) ? Or how do you know if it is out in your area?

I am very curious ! Especially from the result of this poll. Thanks for the help guys.
