Actually, now I have visions of a \'naughty paperclip\' ... can I change my vote?

Forums are basic needs for a community.<br>
I will try to integrate phpBB.com into geeklog.

Some people have no sense of humour! It\'s sad really that these jokes go over their heads.

My GeekLog server has lots of CPU but not much bandwidth. My BadTux server has lots of bandwidth but not much CPU. I want to put
my images on my BadTux server and leave the GeekLog server just for the blog, but right now the software does not appear to support
that (or maybe it\'s just my theme?).

Perhaps a quick hack utilizing Apache\'s Rewrite module could send all your IMAGE requests through a redirect?
Sure, it\'s an extra hit on your machine and uses a few scores of bytes to get the job redirected, but if you\'re passing out massive images, it could alleviate some of your troubles until something better comes along...

Well, for starters, forums would be nice. Perhaps you should just integrate the existing forums project (by gxblock) into GL2 and fix up a few things (such as theming them and allowing multiple forums). Also, with my geeklog users can not seem to register if there is an underscore behind the first part of their email address (eg. whatever_@whatever.com). A block where ads can be posted and edited by AdAdmin would be nice as well. A few other plugin integrations would also be nice; file management/download pages, shout block, gallery. In my opinion this would throw GeekLog at the top of everyones choice for a CMS.

What time frame are we talking about for GL2? I've just installed my first GL site and I'm very impressed with the system - great job! I especially like the security model and the fact that no email-addresses are visible.

The only feature I find lacking is a submission queue for accounts which would allow me to screen all new users. Aside from that there are only a few mildly annoying features/bugs which I'll probably fix myself once I get the time (the only biggie is that calendar "no read" is ignored in week- and day-view).

GL2 is still a couple of months away - the development of the 1.3.x line will continue until then.

Btw, there IS a user submission queue in 1.3.6 ...

bye, Dirk

Wow! Thanks. This enables me to put GL into a production environment right away (as soon as I port the old content).

Is there a way to submit feature requests for GL2? :-) The only nitpick I have left is that Monday is the first day of the week in my locale (Sweden). Localization of the Calendar is generally somewhat lacking in 1.3.6... perhaps a properly made theme could fix this... but I digress.

My point is this: great job! GeekLog is a top notch product.

Have a look at our long list of feature requests ... The bit about the week starting on Monday is already listed there.

bye, Dirk

I would imagine that quite a few people would like to have forum support.

I hope the team decides against this. It is much better to stay focused on the blog aspects of the app and let groups such as phpbb, etc. develope forum software.

staying focused is a good thing!

(btw, great job on geeklog everyone!)

What about a simple ting like sub-topics? Would that be possible?

Keep up the good work! Geeklog is great!
