A couple months ago I had a user request to port the MyHeadlines module to Geeklog. I did, and forgot to tell anyone about it. Well now I've released v4.2.6 and of course there's a Geeklog version.

What is MyHeadlines?

  • MyHeadlines is personalized content syndication: This news reader module allows each of your users to subscribe to the news sources that most interest them. It maintains their subscriptions and presents all the headlines from each of their source subscriptions
  • MyHeadlines is a powerful current events search engine: All news gathered by MyHeadlines is searchable and produces fantastic results. Want to know what's up with the Michael Jackson case?
  • MyHeadlines is a re-usable PHP Class: this Syndication engine can be used as the foundation for any PHP MySQL website. The category tree and aggregation features make it highly competitive in the market place, and the free price tag is nice too. There are a couple "for-pay" features, but nothing that limits the functionality of the base object.
I don't know if I got the port to Geeklog just right, so if you see any bugs or things that I should have done... Please let me know via the Source Forge bug reporting mechanism

A new version of the geeklog/gallery integration has been released. You can get the file here (gallery_1.4.1_1.38.tar.gz).

This new release fixes the security bugs previously mentioned. It also integrates the newest version of gallery (version 1.4.1).

I've not yet begun the security audit I promised, but I hope to get to it some time in January. I'm confident though that this release removes the remote code execution vulnerbility.

The new home for the development and support of my Geeklog projects is now launched.

Check out www.portalparts.com

My projects really over took my family site www.langfamily.ca some time ago. I needed a site that would allow me to support the Geeklog community and my projects better.

My latest project glMessenger: A private Message Plugin with intergrated buddy admin and smilie management is now available.

In addition, I have the latest releases of my other projects and all the site content moved over. All members of my previous site should be able to login.

Axonz 3.0 CSS is now available for immediate download! Tried, tested and true with Geeklog 1.3.8-1sr3, this is nearly a complete rewrite of the original theme.

Version 3.0 boasts a nearly all CSS rendered layout... almost tableless (comments are in tables) woo hoo!

In addition to the new architecture, I created 4 'flavors', of the theme; red, blue, green and grey.

I'll upload the them here later today, but for now, you can get them, or try them out, on my site:

A new integration has been released for Gallery 1.4-pl1 and Geeklog 1.3.8.

The major change in this release of the integration is a new installation method. The integration file contains a complete gallery install modified for Geeklog. Just follow the install or upgrade directions for gallery (including completing two new configuration options), and the install is complete. No hacking of php files required.

Download (direct link) the file from GPlugs now.

*Note the filename was accidently named gallery_1.3.4-pl1_1.3.8.tar.gz, this does actually contain the gallery 1.4-pl1 release though.

I've just re-written a module I wrote for PHP-Nuke for Geeklog 1.3.8 or better. The plugin is an alternative/complimentary links system. Revolving around the standard 88x31 button links that so many sites use.

The plugin allows users to submit their site for a link on your site, with a button link provided. On link submission, a link back is generated (or set of if you have multiple buttons). The plugin then displays all button links in a nice page, and provides a phpblock function to allow you to list top referers, top visited sites, fixed selection of links or random links, or any combination of them. Full admin and stats integration.

You can see it working: Here and download it Here or on on SF.net

Geeklog 1.3.8-1 bugfix release

Geeklog 1.3.8-1 is a bugfix release over 1.3.8 that addresses a variety of (mostly minor) bugs (no security issues), e.g. in the search and the installation script.

Geeklog 1.3.8-1 is available as an upgrade archive as well as a full tarball.

Please note that only the full tarball includes the updated install script, so if you're planning a fresh install, you should download that file.

[Update 2003-08-10 - The upgrade archive accidentally included the original files from the 1.3.8 release, not the 1.3.8-1 versions. Sorry about that. Please download that tarball again. The full tarball was not affected.]
