Introducing the blog plugin, an implementation of the Blogger API for Geeklog.

What does this mean? It means that you can now post stories on your Geeklog site through a Blogger client (an appplication that lets you compose your posts offline).

And it doesn't stop there: It lets you post Forum topics, Static Pages, Journal entries, and FAQ entries, too. All tied in to Geeklog's permission system, of course. You can also restrict usage to members of certain groups and allow posting to the forum but not stories, etc.

But (there just had to be a "but" ...) here's the catch: This plugin is not free software ...

Release Candidate 2 for Geeklog 1.3.8 is now available for download. It has a couple of fixes over 1.3.8rc1, most notably more restrictive checks for proper topic access. See the Changelog for a complete list of changes.

There were no database changes over 1.3.8rc1, so rc1 sites can be upgraded by replacing the files (there is no upgrade archive available, but the file docs/changed-files has a list of all the files that changed since 1.3.8rc1).

The tarball also includes updated language files for Italian, Japanese, Polish, Spanish, and Swedish as well as a new language file for "formal" German.

I searched the site first to find an answer to this question but had no luck...I apologize if it is redundant.

I am curious how I can change the session variables so that users on the Windows platform (IE 5-6 specifically) are logged out when they close their browser window or quit their browser. Right now I have no problems with this process with Safari, Camino, Opera, or IE 5 on the Mac.

Is this simply a problem with IE 5-6 and how it handles Geeklog's session variables? By changing the lib-sessions.php file will I be able to make these changes. Forgive my naivety concerning this subject but I am an aspiring intermediate PHP/Geeklog administrator ;)

Thanks in advance for any help and insight the Geeklog community might be able to offer.

Release Candidate 1 for Geeklog 1.3.8 is now available for download. It includes the Static Pages plugin 1.3, a new search, rewritten "forgot password" functionality and other changes (see the ChangeLog for a complete list).

As usual, you are encouraged to try it out, but since this is not the full release yet, you shouldn't run it on any production sites just yet.

Please note that there were also a lot of theme changes and that the language files need to be updated, too (translators, please join the geeklog-translations mailing list).

Have fun.

bye, Dirk
