Why don't you include the Calendar, Polls and Weblinks as pluggins in Geeklog 1.3. I think Geeklog should be only a solid weblog with all the add-ons as pluggins.

My intention as of mid-day today (approx) is to launch a website for my local community. Now, I read slashdot, I like slashdot and so the weblog format seems the way to go. I found a listing of many weblog systems rather than starting from scratch. Some seem quite good, some not so good. Geeklog is standing out as the nicest, but when we get down to it are there any specific arguments for choosing GeekLog over solutions like phpNuke, or phpWebsite

As an after thought: Is it the intention of the Geeklog team to offer a 'slash' type solution or are you aiming somewhere else? Personally I don't get the "moderator" scenario slashdot has, but is there an equivelant in GeekLog?

Well, things have been a little quiet around here for the past few weeks or so and you might be wondering whats up.

Well, just to let you know, Geeklog 1.3 is going well. Development is now at full pace on getting a beta out this week, with release soon after that.

Okay, hows this for an idea. A setting for integrating a "Section" with a mailing list. You make a Story (or reply to one), it sends an email to a mail list. You write a story to a mail list, it grabs it and posts it to GL.

In CVS in the geeklog-1.3 tree there is a version of Geeklog that allows ALL blocks to be fully configurable. You can move blocks to the left or right side and up or down. I have also updated the display preferences so users can hide/show the Upcoming Events, Poll and What's new block.

NOTE: if you install the version of geeklog from CVS, it will NOT be compatible with any of the existing plugins right now. Today massive changes to config.php were made and all the plugins use the old config variable names. I hope to update them all between now and the weekend.

Okay, 90% of the work is done. Now it's down to testing it on multiple platforms and browsers to see how it fares. I'm going to download a new Opera and an old Netscape to see how it all holds together. I've got a bad feeling about these fonts though. So message below, tell us of how the theme works on your screen. (Updated Fri Sep 14) Just added a bunch of buttons, including a variation on Niri's powered button. Thoughts?

I'm just tinkering with the GL look and feel at the moment, but in the next few days, I'm going to dedicate myself to building a better interface. So far, I'm going with the 'blue' look, and am going to incorporate Mozilla's Modern tint of cyans and blues, plus use the HE gun metal colourings also. Feedback Please!
