Geeklog 1.4.0rc2

Announcements

We're almost there: Geeklog 1.4.0rc2 is the second and final (or so we hope) release candidate for Geeklog 1.4.0.

This release fixes issues with the FCKeditor integration, SQL errors, improves handling of trackbacks and pingbacks, and a few other issues. It also includes updated PEAR packages.

Please help us squash the remaining bugs by installing this release candidate or try it out at the demo site. Bugs can be reported in our bug tracker (now that it's back online) or simply by posting a comment to this story. Thanks!

Those upgrading from 1.4.0rc1 will find a list of all the changed files in docs/changed-files. And the usual reminder for those using the Bad Behavior plugin: Don't forget to add that extra line to lib-common.php when upgrading.

Also see our previous posts about some of the new features in Geeklog 1.4.0:

Hi,

I don't know if you can call this a bug, but the stats.php page is not uniform:

  • The stats from the forum (maybe other plugins to?), don't apear in the list of stats, but outside of it.
  • Also sometimes stats are displayed in the same list as everything else in Geeklog (on the admin pages, etc.), I think this is the template in "theme\admin\lists". And some stats are show with the templates in ""theme\stats.

It would be nice to just choose one option, that way the stats page would look better.

i'm pretty sure that is just plugins that need to be updated in order to make use of the updated template files.

I also thought of that, but then I looked at diffrent Geeklog sites using diffrent plugins and themes and it's the same on all of them. Take a look a stats.php at my site, at geeklog.net, gplugs.pigstye.net/stats.php, ... It only seems to be like this on 1.4 sites.

The plugins have to be updated. It's a change in both the template files and the plugin code for the stats.

I have one article were there are no trackbacks. But on the frontpage it shows that there are 4 trackbacks. When I klick on that link it just doesn't show anny comments.

I think this is a bug in SpamX where it doesn't update the trackback cound when it has deleten trackback spam.

The Mass Delete Trackbacks module had a bug where it didn't fix the trackback count when deleting trackbacks. This has been fixed in 1.4.0rc2.

I've posted a small script to fix the trackback counter on the geeklog-devtalk mailing list back in November.

So it is fixed now? Then there is no problem any more :-D

I will just change the value of the trackbacks in the database. It's just one story.

I never installed rc1, I just went from beta to rc2. I must say you guys did a great job on it. It runs mutch smoother and all the bugs I could find (but that ware already poited at) are fixed.

Thank you for all your effort everybody who makes Geeklog possible!

(Is the calender going to be a plugin any time soon?)

Why does the calendar need to be a plugin? You can just remove the link in the block. It doesn't use any queries unless you are displaying its content.

Because even if you arent using it, it is still there. You can remove the link and you can delete calendar.php, but it is still there.

I think that it would be beter that it is not part of the core any more. I just feels cleaner to me. And what is the advantage of having a calendar on it from the begining?

Geeklog 1.4.0rc2 - FCKEditor
Authored by: 1000ideen on Thursday, January 26 2006 @ 03:38 PM EST
I have a problem with FCKEditor.

As soon as I turn it true I have a problem with the css-class header-navigation in header.thtml.

I gave it a name header-navigation-top and it changed a little but something seems to override this class.

Also the td align="right" in the line of the header-navigation does not work. It is also overridden and makes the menu align left.

You need to update your theme files. Check the chang log. In this particular case, the Style.css and header.html have been improved between RC1 and RC2. You must either use the new improved version, or make changes to your header.html and style.css according to the RC2 changes.

Thanks mate. It is a fresh new install of rc2 German. I did not touch the professional theme for trouble shooting.

So I wonder what`s wrong. As it seems the problem is a known one with rc1? I missed that discussion. Can you give me a link to understand what`s wrong?

Right I got it. I rerally took a fresh install BUT I tend to mark the beginning and end of a file like this

<!-- End of Editor Load - advanced_editor_header.thtml< ->

With this file I forgot 1 hyphen at the end... So it is working now perfectly!

I'm an experienced Geeklog user with over 3 years of experience using all manner of versions of GL.

I just loaded this latest release candidate on the following configuration:

XP Pro OS w/IIS
MySQL 4.0x
PHP 4.4.x

Standard set up - no surprises or issues getting things going.

About one hour after I installed the package, I noticed that I would try to login and if my default admin password was entered, I never get the admin panels. It is as if I'm logged in (which the user display shows, along with an anonymous user, who is also me), but cannot let me go to the default admin screens.

Usual stuff checked - cookies, cache, tried two seperate browsers - firefox/ie. Will try deleting the tables entirely and running the install again and see if that illustrates any potential problems... Will report back what I see.

OK - Tried a complete purge of the database tables - re-ran the install. Login acts the same.

Moved all of the templates out and installed a fresh 1.3.11 version 3 GL install. Works beautifully, same database, same exact system...

I'm going to try it again tomorrow to see if I blew it with my settings in config.php and such, but I strongly doubt it. This behavior appeared suddenly after one hour of normal operations with the 1.4.0rc2 install having been complete. I did switch on the FCK editor with a change to the config.php file, but other than that, no special changes...

Still experiencing the same problem? That's so weird, because I haven't seen this reported by anyone else.

Geeklog 1.3.11 works A-ok as always on this configuration, but when I put GL 1.4 on, it is always the same...

I'm going to switch to a seperate system at my workplace laboratory and see if the issue is perhaps related to my particular system. I'll file a report back on Monday.

To me that sounds like whitespace at the end of the config file.

For somereason I can't figure out yet, sometimes my text editor adds a blank whitespace character at the end of the file. Then I have the same problem your describing.

How do I add href attributes to Config.php?
Authored by: Bungholio on Wednesday, February 01 2006 @ 08:22 PM EST
Hello,

As in this post there is a defined list of preallowed HTML Tags, I would like to add target="_blank" to my config file so I can have links open a new window instead of having people leave my site. Can anyone explain how to add this to the config.php file?

Any help appreciated! I did try searching Geeklog for this question, and I was surprised no one has asked it :)

Thanks,

Bungholio

I'm surprised you didn't find anything about the target attribute, as this has really been discussed ad nauseam.

Also see the FAQ: Why does Geeklog remove certain HTML tags?

Hello all,

Geeklog is nice and the new release candidate is a good improvement. I tried the demo site and installed it as well.
One question: all the themes in the demo site, are the downloadable somewhere?

Thanks
Geeklog 1.4.0rc2
Authored by: Mu Satach on Thursday, February 02 2006 @ 01:28 PM EST
Yes, Downloads > Themes
;)

However, not every theme available has been updated to work seemlessly with 1.4 so you may run into some odd error messages.

When I run into an error message that something is missing or gone wacky, I just copy the missing files from the professional theme into the theme folder I'm using.

I have rc2, upgraded from the beta.

I modified a static page and discovered that it stripped off the "wrap in block" attribute. No matter what I did it would not set it to be "true" through the static page Admin. I ended up setting it directly via mysql. I know all bets are off upgrading between pre-releases, but it still seems like it could be a problem.
