Bounties!

With Geeklog 1.4.1 finally out, it's time to make plans for the next release. At which point we can't help realize (again), that our list of open feature requests is embarrassingly long. So it's about time we do something about it.

Fortunately, we just had an offer to support Geeklog development which lets us try out something new (for us at least): Bounties.

The idea is that we identify tasks that probably wouldn't get implemented otherwise and add some incentive to have someone jump in and implement them. In other words, contributors are getting a chance to get paid for their contribution to Geeklog (not much, but still ...).

Our friendly new sponsor, AOE media GmbH, has commited to a monthly donation for the duration this year. So now we need your help in identifying the things that you would like to see implemented. Please keep in mind that we're not looking for new ideas at this point, but that we want to reduce our backlog of feature requests.

We'd like to have that discussion in the forums mostly, so if you have any general questions or issues with the bounty system, please use this thread. To chip in your favorite feature request, please use this thread.

Once we've got an overview over the most-wanted tasks, we will probably set up a poll to figure out the exact order (keep in mind that we only have limited financial resources).

We're awaiting your feedback!

How about you guys set up a Pligg (www.pligg.com) install and let users vote on what features they want most? Pligg lets users vote on articles and would be really useful for this sort of thing. I'm the web director for Pligg and Geeklog was my first CMS and was my favorite CMS until I started Pligg a year ago.

I'd rather see GForge (our bugtracking system) get options to vote for bugs/feature requests and let you donate for them directly. Maybe someone wants to sponsor that ...

bye, Dirk

If you want to increase the motivation for this, give us back an invoice so we could declare this as a business expense. All you have to do is open up a small business, which is usually free and just takes some paperwork. You can always pay $0 taxes for times when you have $0 earnings (although there's no reason for that thanks to the ongoing bounty sponsors).

Admittedly, you still won't be able to declare business expenses yourself (when you pay the "out source" programmers), because I doubt most programmers would agree to form a business themselves (although I wish they did). Still, even one proper direction ("sponsors to you") is better than nothing.

Besides, it would also make sure you stay out of trouble with your IRS now that you're going to get (or already do get) regular unofficial income.

You know what? Maybe you can form a nonprofit organization instead of a small business, and then you'd get all of the benefits those things get.

Well, just wanted to give you some food for thought.

Aleluja

I hardly wiat this! great. GREAT!

I understend that you like to celan a task that are waiting but i'am realy go trought and i can find anythink that i suport? I agree there are a lot of ideas but i for most of it dont now what they are. But i have a lot of good ideas that it should be done.
In that reason I sugest that we have a litle diferent sistem, i sugest if some one have a ideja and if I dont have time or knowledge to tho that, but he realy need that i that case he can write sugest and contribute Bounties for some one who like to do that for him.

It in most case go for ideas, plugins or task, with mostly are very usefull for all grup vich use a geek CMS.

I have a two idejas or wishes, first we pay 50$ for plugins for avtomatic upload Bounties, i think for all grup (special for NGO non goverment organizaton) like we are. Its one of amazing function. Can you imagine what revolution can do that for some project or good ideas?

I also have a question for gadget for MS vista (sory for ask that but the 90% of our visitors are have a MS windovs).Im interesting are in geeklog have that sort of xml that suport that?

i find a som development site http://microsoftgadgets.com/Sidebar/DevelopmentOverview.aspx

If somethink in xml from geek is must to change or accomodate that we get a raly good gadget in next month we also give a Bounties 30$.

If the my wishes are accept for geek developer i will write a some sugestion hove we can do that solutions.

Thanks a lot

Since OpenID seems to be picking up speed, we thought that would be a good task for the first bounty sponsored by the Geeklog Team (via AOE Media's monthly contributions).

See the list of open bounties for details.

bye, Dirk

Please welcome our newest sponsor, UK Links Directory.

As a reminder: Let us know what you'd like to see implemented as new or improved features in Geeklog. Once things regarding the Google Summer of Code have settled down a bit, we will be revisiting that discussion for new bounties.

You posted that comment under a file in the File Management plugin. See the "C:" entries in the What's New section for the File Management plugin.

I was actually thinking about replying to your comment pointing out that it may easily be overlooked there ... You may want to post it again in the forums.

bye, Dirk

Adding pubDate to the RSS so that twitterfeed can update twitter. I signed up for both and was all excited to have it automatically send my headlines through - set and forget - but it doesn't work without pubDate.
