Welcome to Geeklog Saturday, May 25 2013 @ 03:08 PM EDT
Michael Hampton has been busy updating Bad Behavior, blocking new spambots and fixing the occasional false positive. Since the Geeklog version of Bad Behavior was a few revisions behind, I've made a new package to update the Geeklog plugin to the latest version 2.0.23.
You can download Bad Behavior 2.0.23 for Geeklog from the download area. For the release notes, please see the Bad Behavior homepage.

Btw, one of the changes in this release was:
I'd like to point out that Geeklog's built-in spam check for Trackbacks already took care of this particular spam. BB2 will only block it a bit earlier now.

On the Geeklog side of things, this update now also adds proper support for the new search in Geeklog 1.6.x (but continues to work with older versions).

This version is labelled a security release, but from what I understand, the security issue only affects the WordPress binding, not the Geeklog plugin. Also, the 2.1.x versions mentioned in the article are development versions and not intended for general use.
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.37.
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.38.
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.39.
This update also fixes a Geeklog-specific SQL error in the search (only affected users in the Bad Behavior2 Admin group).
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.40.
This release is considered a security update for Bad Behavior (details on Michael's site), so upgrading is strongly recommended!
And here's the next update already: The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.41.
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.43.
I was playing around with Google's Rich Snippets Testing Tool and was getting frustrated with it always reporting an "empty page". Until I realized that it was being blocked by Bad Behavior. Looks like the requests for this tool come from an IP address range that Bad Behavior does not know about yet.
I've reported this to Michael Hampton. In the meantime, here's a patch if you need it.
When I checked the IP it is registered with Microsoft though.
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.46.
The archive has been updated to Bad Behavior 2.0.49. There was only one very small change since 2.0.46 - all the others changes only affected the Wordpress plugin.
Note: Support for Bad Behavior 2.0 ends June 30, 2013. There is a new version 2.2 out, but I haven't had the time to look into porting it to Geeklog yet. If anyone else wants to tackle this, feel free ...
