Geeklog Gallery Integration Release

AnnouncementsA new version of the geeklog/gallery integration has been released. You can get the file here (gallery_1.4.1_1.38.tar.gz).

This new release fixes the security bugs previously mentioned. It also integrates the newest version of gallery (version 1.4.1).

I've not yet begun the security audit I promised, but I hope to get to it some time in January. I'm confident though that this release removes the remote code execution vulnerbility.

OK, downloaded and I see the gallery docs, but where are the instructions for integrating with Geeklog?

Ug, but I think I found a bug. I accidentally entered /path/to/geeklog/public_html and went to the next screen and saw the error, but when I go back and change it to just /path/to/geeklog it still reports the same error so I'm not sure how I can proceed

Following this thread it looks like you got things figured out. Thats good to hear. Glad you're enjoying the code.

P.S. If anyone thinks adding additional instructions/directions would be useful, feel free to write them up and send them to me. If they look good, I'll include them in the next release.

Alan - this is dangerous - new kid and ONLY one cup of coffee when you are playing on the computer !

I'll check the upgrade on the site later ;-)

I didn't see the instructions either. I dumped the geeklog patch into the gallery directory with the newest version and it seems to work though.

However, where are all the borders? In my old version of the gallery, there were borders at the top of the gallery, now it's just text all over the page. Something seems wrong to me, and i'm guessing I missed a stop. An example is here:

What did I do wrong?

You need to add gallery style (CSS) stuff to your theme's CSS file. If anyone wants to put together a nice generic set of CSS for gallery (that will work and look good with most geeklog themes) I'll include it in the next release.

I forgot to mention the reason you see the difference (missing borders, strange text, etc) with this release is the upgrade to "styles" that occurred between the 1.4 and 1.4.1 releases of gallery. You can get more information on this by reading the release notes and changelog for gallery.

Just awesome.

The only problem I had, and it wasn't THAT much of a problem, is the lack of something that says "Use the installation instructions that are included in the "docs" folder. Then at the end of the setup phase, you'll be asked for the location of your GL files. Blammo, you're good."

Had to find that out in the support forum.

I'm running 1.3.8-1sr2 (haven't had time to work on upgrading for awhile), and I don't have the gallery plugin (at least I don't think so - I don't see it listed in my plugins list). Personally, I don't need/want gallery, and I'm worried about upgrading to 1.4+ since it seems that it is now integral to the package. Am I the only one in the world who doesn't want to use it? Do I really have to worry about this upgrade since gallery is not in my current install? Thoughts?

You seem to be confusing things. Geeklog still is (and will always be) available on its own. So the package in the above story is more like Gallery bundled with Geeklog, not the other way around.

Btw, Gallery won't show up as a plugin in Geeklog, as it's not technically a plugin.

bye, Dirk

Has anybody been able to get the gallery remote to work with the integration?

They are not compatible as distributed. Supposedly there was a hack to allow the use of gallery remote, but I haven't seen it. You can do a "side by side" install of gallery (one gallery embedded within geeklog and another vanilla install of gallery) that use the same albums. That is what I have done in the past to use gallery remote.

Awesome! Thanks for the new integration! This works great!
I was previously using Coppermine, which I really liked; it was simple and plain and had all the features that I wanted. This integration works very well and has all the features that I need and more! Thanks So much!

Hi,

I've noticed that the Gallery code now includes Geeklog integration (I have Gallery 1.4.3-cvs-b35 checked out from CVS).

However, I have the same problem with this as I have had previously and never managed to resolve.

Geeklog works perfectly, as does Gallery, but when I try the integration geeklog doesn't display properly, er, actually, the only thing that displays is the very bottom geeklog footer, i.e.:

Any ideas how to fix this?

In wrapper.header.default place an "echo " before "COM_siteHeader();". This is discussed in other forum and story threads.
