The developers shouldn't have to consider every server configuration possibility in the world. Webhosting is dirt cheap these days. If someone can't afford to pay as little as $5/month for mail() capability, then that person should either stick with plainer websites or learn some PHP so he can modify the code himself. Don't tell me pre-teenagers, teenagers, or adults can't afford $60-$100 per year for webhosting. They blow far more than that on just entertainment things.

Why should the developers slow down everyone's system with extra code for the few who are too cheap to get the basics?

FWIW, GL2 will support mail() and PEAR's SMTP library.

The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.

Don't cry. It was a good spirited post; the small suggestion didn't call for a lengthy flame.

Just looked at polarhome. Everything I need in geekish server and a righteous free site too!

I'd be interested in setting up a geeklog site for people in my neighbourhood. Is polarhome reliable enough for this? (I notice several dead links on it's home page navigation bar so I want to be sure that someone is really on top of things)
