In general, cheap web-hosting has come of age.
I'd love to use geeklog with one of the cheap web hosts for PHP/mysql ($9-$20/month)
Have people installed geeklog on such a shared web-host in the past?
I saw with slashcode, for example, that it uses a daemon and many shared web-hosts don't allow that. Are there equivalent dependencies in geeklog?
I've only seen one web host that explicitly supports GL as a service, but they were $50/month minimum.
I'd like to just download geeklog and install it on a PHP enabled shared web-host.
Any comments on doing this or pointers to appropriate webhosts you're using would be greatly appreciated.

I used to use definitivehosting.com which was cheap, but they run 100s of sites per server.... slows things down a lot from some networks. http://euans.net/ is on their servers and performs okay though - they also offer excellent support too. No complaints about their service at all in fact.
Both are about USD9 per month, and both offer unlimited POP3 emails, MySQL DBs, etc. etc.
Cheers,
Euan.
I\'m looking at some others for my personal site now. The effects of a soft economy and stiff competition are playing into my greedy little hands.
great technical support (the tech support are the sys admin, the built the system), linux servers, MySQL, PHP4, starting packages @ 7.95/mo USD.
You should check them out, they\'re very good and the prices start at
a month !!!

Nexus (according to their website):
USD 4/month: 200MB disk space, 2GB monthly traffic
USD 19.95/month: 200MB Disk Space, 10GB monthly traffic
Webscorpion.com:
USD 10/month: 450MB disk space, 6GB monthly traffic
USD 16/month: 800MB disk space, 10GB monthly traffic
USD 25/month: 1400MB disk space, 18GB monthly traffic
I believe we beat Nexus on most other parameters as well. Check us out!

b) how do you get GL running? They've got so many restrictions I can't install it with the conf_path separate from the conf_html. In fact I can't get it to run at all, because it complains about open_basedir restriction. Apparently it wants files to live in directories to which I have no write access.

P.S. pardon the 'nuketest' reference, but I haven't had a chance to change the subdomain name yet.
I was lucky enough to sign up whith the special 1000 mb plan - but features are really good in the normal plans too...
Anyone hosting geeklog at Dixie Sys ?
Seems like they have the best prices in town.
Thanks
