It\'s pretty simple actually. The calendar, weblinks and polls were core Geeklog features when it first debuted. I\'m not sure if you have ever tried taking features away from users or not but they just won\'t have it.
However, if someone is interested in making these into plugins and they provide the scripts needed to convert the data in the GL tables over to the plug-in tables then I would consider pulling the feautre and including the plugin as a default (i.e. it would be pre installed with your Geeklog install but you could easily remove it via the plugin web interface). I will say, though, that I don\'t ever anticipate the polls being a plugin...it should stay in the core code. Well...

Well, how\'s this for radical. Geeklog should be nothing more than user/group security, session management, template parsing and management, and plugins! Plugins would include Messaging (for News, Articles, Instant Messages, etc), Polls & Reviews, Links (from Download Archives to Link Directories), Calendar, and a Folder to sort them out.
Sounds great .. :) Personally, I\'d like to create a core \"thread and object\" system within GL .... All objects have a uid field, with a pid (parentid) linking them back up the chain. The object itself is then called (like article, event, poll, or link) which contains it\'s own data manipulation and return. Big Dreams :) Hear, hear!

Right on target! You're essentially talking about turning GL into a framework or an API. Particularly if you leave it simple to just bolt on header/footer includes around other php programs. This is elegant, and modular. Now convince Tony. :-)

You don\'t have to convice me. My biggest frustration as a developer is when people swing for the fence...remember, you can win games with a buch of base hits.
I sound like a broken record but I\'ll say it again. This software is evolving....incrementally. As long as we get great feedback like this from users we\'ll eventually get there. Now if I could only convice you of that ;-) |
